• Rhone valley stretches 140 miles from Vienne in the north down to Avignon in the South.
  • The climate of the Rhone valley is warm and vintages are not included to vary excessively.
  • The Rhone valley is divided into two area:-

NORTHERN RHONE: REGIONS WITH WINES

  • Chateau Grillet: the best and most famous of white Rhone wines which are expensive.
  • Chateau Condrieu: it produces white wine
  • Clairette De Die: produces sparkling wines
  • Cote Rotie: the roasted slopes of Cote Rotie are famous vineyards. There are two slopes named after two sisters, the Cote blone and Cote Brune.
  • Cronas: produces red wines
  • Hermitage: named after legenary repentant knight who turned hermit and grew the first wines there. Hermitage produces both red and white wines.
  • Jospeh: excellent red and white wines with flavor of black berries and plumy
  • Peray: produces sparkling wine.

SOUTHERN RHONE

  • Chateau neuf –du-pape: 99% red wines and 1% white wines are produced. There are 13 grape varieties allowed in chateau neuf du pape and wine must have 12.5% alcohol.
  • Cote du Rhone: produces white, red, rose wines
  • Coteaux du Tricastin: famous for red wines
  • Cotes du Ventoux: produces red wines
  • Cotes du Vivorais: produces fruity red and rose wines
  • Gigonds: produces red wines.
  • Lirac: one of the best rose wine produced here.
  • Muscat-de-Beaumes de venise: sweet fortified wine produced with muscat grapes.
  • Rasteau: Sweet white fortified wines are produced
  • Travel: very famous dry rose wines are produces.
